With city limits expanding time and again, communication and travel ought to have been difficult, but Jamnagar springs a surprise. Easy to travel and even get connected to near and dear ones back home, this is a perfect city to live in! Especially away from home.

TELEPHONES/FAXES
Walking down any road, lane or streets you'll find yellow boards with either PCO/STD/ISD or Xerox which you should keep a lookout for. One can find fax facilities mostly with the telephone booths, especially the ones in shopping complexes or in buildings.

Telephone booths are something you would get everywhere. many telephone booths have started giving facilities to receive calls at nominal charges from parents, friends or relatives. In fact, you can even find the one ruppe phone of BSNL, TATA and Reliance in their trademark red colours installed at the most popular hangouts and joints, which makes it easy to stay connected! Carry loose change always for the coin operated telephones, as many a time it's something difficult to find. Be careful to read the instructions as many don't accept old coins and some are accepted either before or after dialing the number.

Only a couple of Telephone booths are open 24 hours and most of the booths shut by 11:00 p.m. or later depending on the customers. In the outskirts, telephones are less. Instead of driving on, stop at the first booth you see. Always remember to ask the counter person if he has change for your call before you dial.
In hotels and fancy shops, you are charged extra for local calls-which can range from Rs.3 to Rs.10 depending on the whims, fancies and service taxes, off course!

CYBER CAFÉS
Jamnagar has very heavily caught up with the net culture in the last two-three years. With students and corporates all catching e-mail and e-business alike, a number of cyber cafes have sprung up all over town. Jamnagar holds about 30+ cyber cafes. Areas of Panchvati, Town Hall, ST Road, DKV, Patel Colony have cyber cafes in every street. The rates range from as low as Rs 10 to Rs 40. Be sure to inquire about the rates.

Also most cyber cafes will allow you to use their softwares to prepare office documentation or presentation at nominal costs. Colour printouts, scanning, and even video conferencing facilities are offered by a lot of cyber cafes. Besides, most of these cyber cafes are air-conditioned, provide good and efficient service and are extremely polite!

MOBILES
Covered by the best of mobile service brands in India, Hutch, AirTel, Idea, Tata and RIM, the city is also widely networked and is a hotbed for communication services! While connectivity is usually good except for in basement, all brands suit the pocket and the purpose. Infact, these days renting a mobile would work out cheaper than getting a telephone line….
